Letov S-16...a bohemian beast

I'd say that old machines always catch my attention...but when I saw the Kopro kit (1/72) for the first time, I fell in love instantly. Up to that time, I'd known nothing about this Czechoslovakian company.

This was not a revolutionary machine, but was a big, sturdy and reliable bomber for 1924 standard. After all, Czech manufacture was (still is today) synonymous of German manufacture...its main industrial development was in the old Bohemian princedom. When Germany was blocked by Versailles Treaty to develop its aeronautical industries, reinstalled it in neighbor and cultural related countries like Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Norway, Holland including...the Soviet Union up to Hitler's ascension of power!

KP kit is made in bright and very hard plastic. The upper plane is out of fit: is a must to cut it to realign and stick again. This is the most obvious defect of the kit molds. The white color of the plastic is not a help to detect other align or design problems.

But, after all, the result is a very attractive model...attracts attention its size and general appearance of this old and obscure bomber.

Take a note in a silly fault... I replace all the N struts by wire but forget to follow the correct align in the inferior ones. Uppss!

  1. Great build of a classic kit! I still remember when I got mine, in 1990, thanks to a (then) Czechoslovak pen pal who was also a modeller. Brengun has released a modern 1/72 kit which is quite good.
